The Incomplete Whole

2025
dry pastel and giclée print on paper collage
11 ¾ × 11 ¾ inches

Fragmented Letterforms was created live on-site as one of 20 murals commissioned by the City of Smyrna for Brush & Box Fest, held as part of the city's Cup Daze festivities in celebration of International Mural Day on June 27, 2026.

The piece began as an 8-inch by 4-inch paper collage, built from cut fragments of oversized display type broken apart, layered, and reassembled into new abstract shapes. That small-scale study was then scaled up 12x to its final 8-foot by 4-foot dimensions and hand-painted directly onto a wood panel over the course of the live event.

The composition explores how far a letterform can be deconstructed before it stops reading as language and starts functioning as pure shape.

The mural remains on permanent public display in Downtown Smyrna.

The finished mural on display at Village Green Park, Downtown Smyrna, GA, alongside a neighboring panel.
