SECAC ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2024

For its 80th conference year, SECAC hosted a vibrant gathering in Atlanta, GA, from October 23–26, 2024, at the Atlanta Marriott Buckhead Hotel & Conference Center.
Under the guiding theme of Wayfinding, SECAC 2024 has been designed by artists, designers, scholars, and educators from across the Atlanta region. Wayfinding, a term originally coined in the realms of environmental design and navigation, has evolved into a generative concept that extends far beyond physical spaces. Our conference seeks to unravel the intricacies of wayfinding across intersections of technology, cognition, culture, and design.

KRIDER PRIZE 2025
November 2025Presented by University & College Designers Association (UCDA)
Annual national award established in 2009 to recognize extraordinary accomplishment and creativity across disciplines. Selected for contributions emphasizing critical thinking and design as a method of intervention and inquiry.

The Third Space is a series of design projects that explore postcolonial theory through the lens of visual communication. Drawing on Homi K. Bhabha’s concept of the Third Space—a sociolinguistic theory of identity and community—it emphasizes hybridity as a framework for understanding how individuals and cultures are shaped by overlapping influences.
Each project in the series investigates a different facet of postcolonial thought, using design as a tool to question, represent, and reinterpret the complexities of identity, language, and cultural negotiation.

THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY
Seminar SeriesThis series of seminars aims to investigate the parameters of design as a practice. Rather than showcasing “best practices”—optimal ways for designers to take on predetermined roles—it looks at alternative models for the profession in which designers develop their own agendas and territories.
